After a long week, our team was ready for some much deserved R&R! Our dear friend, Mosses Uisso, https://uissoadventure.com is a tour operator, and, once again, helped us to explore the surrounding area.
On Saturday, we went to a newly opened animal reserve, Serval Wildlife: https://servalwildlife.com. It was awesome! We were able to be up close and personal with lots of animals!
Lionesses –We were in the enclosure with 3 lionesses, all around a year old! (no touching or feeding them, thankfully!). Such magnificent creatures! One was lying with the pads of her foot up– I had to take a pic! Their paws are so massive!! The center is expecting to receive an albino male lion soon from South Africa, as well!
s
Zebras– very pushy with the food baskets! You had to work hard to keep your footing, or they would bowl you over in their enthusiasm to get to the feed baskets!
Ostriches– rather disconcerting the way they look at you– made us feel they might swoop in and peck us! Also, none of us had appreciated how much their feet look like they belong on a dinosaur! And, the third “ostrich observation” was watching them sit down and seeing their knees bend backwards! Truly unusual creatures, but their feathers are beautiful!
Giraffes– These were all young giraffes, but still so tall! We were surprised at how soft their fur was! Beautiful animals!
Blue Monkeys– I think these were Natalie’s favorite! They had us sit in a swing chair and feed two of them with bits of carrot. They were very clever, and so agile! If you closed your eyes, you would swear that their feet were the paws of kittens– so soft!
Antelopes– They had several varieties of antelopes, including Thompsons Gazelles, Grants Gazelles, but the ones that we were able to feed and pet were Elands.
Vervet Monkey– This one jumped up into Matt’s arms, and we said he was practicing for his new baby that’s on the way! (Carissa, we made sure he knows not to feed the new baby carrot pieces! 🙂
We closed out the trip with a classic “box lunch” that Mosses brought for us– huge and delicious!
On Sunday, we ventured to the Hot Springs, Kikuletwa Springs (Maji Moto), again with our friend Mosses as our guide. We had a relaxing morning floating in the crystal clear water, and swimming with and against the current. Such a magical oasis in this dry, dusty area!
Mosses arranged lunch for us– in the shade!– he saw that our February pasty skin was pink, and ready to be out of the sun! 🙂 A definite crowd pleaser were our plates of chips na mayai, or “chips with eggs” (that’s “chips” meaning “fries”). These were quickly followed by a mounded platter of grilled goat, and a side of an avocado salad– absolutely delicious!

That pool looks refreshing! And the smiles say a good time!
