The week-end, ahh, the week-end. A good time for us all to enjoy some R&R. I’m leaning on the team to take up the blogging mantle, so hopefully one of them will give you some insights into our activities.
today, instead, I am going to share the story of Saturday rounds. Natalie and I went to the hospital to check the young girl’s foot. I’m sure you remember her story – motorcycle accident with a tremendous wound to the posterior ankle involving the artery, nerve, and several tendons. The KCMC residents planned to check her wound Saturday and we insisted that we be there as well.
as is the case with all kids, you can tell quickly how they feel. She has put on a brave face each day, but Saturday morning as we rolled back the blanket I could see the fear in her face. “Pole” I said – sorry in Swahili as we began to take down the dressing. After several tense minutes we were able to see the wound.
AND YES! It looked great. The skin was alive, the wound looked great! Now, can she still hit problems, of course, but a good first check felt great for everyone, we reapplied a new dressing.
“Sawa?” I asked. (Ok?). “Sawa.” She replied and let loose a grin that lit up the room and brought Natalie and I to huge grins as well.
See for yourselves, and I hope you grin with me!
One response to “A smile”
Yay, glad the little girl’s wound is doing well. Hope it continues to heal
